Asia's growing data centre industry



A recent Financial Times article (paywall) suggested good times are ahead for Asia's data centre industry.

Some of the points cited

-although it makes economic sense to consolidate facilities in one country and serve multiple markets, some countries like China and Vietnam are restricting cross-border data flows.

-preferred choices for locating data centres are Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia

-demand in Asia driven by AI, augmented reality and transition towards a cashless society, 5G and 6G networks, as well as a desire for digital sovereignty

-Asia Pacific market for data centres expected to grow at CAGR of 12 percent from 2023 to 2027 according to Renub Research

-most data centres in China (449 end of 2023) followed by Australia, Japan and India according to Cloudscene
